Prior to 2010, Levi's work was mainly academic, as he completed courses with Rutgers, School of International Training (SIT), United States Institute of Peace, Marlboro College and Keene State College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from Keene State College, where he focused on the structural violence waged against indigenous populations and the role of social amnesia.
